Private One-On-One Driving Instruction

$75/hr

We provide one-on-one driving lessons for licensed drivers across Dartmouth and the Annapolis Valley, working with you directly to focus on whatever you most want to improve. Whether you need a refresher after time away from the wheel, are easing back into driving after a difficult experience, are new to Canada and learning Nova Scotia road rules, or just want to sharpen specific skills like parallel parking or highway driving, we work at your pace and focus where you need the most practice.

Customized to What You Need

Every Private Lesson is shaped around what you actually want to work on, starting with a quick conversation about your goals so we can evaluate your current skill level and build the lesson around your specific needs. Whether that's smoother lane changes, more confidence on the highway, parallel parking that actually sticks, or settling driving anxiety, your lesson is your call.

What Private Lessons Cover

Drivers book Private Lessons for all kinds of reasons, and you can bring whatever you want to work on:

  • Refreshers for licensed drivers
  • Easing driving anxiety and fear
  • Newcomers to Canada learning local road rules
  • Parallel parking, backing up, and tight maneuvers
  • City driving and highway confidence
  • Driver evaluation and skill assessment

Real Driving on Real Roads

We get you out on actual Nova Scotia roads in real conditions, starting in quieter residential streets in Dartmouth or the Valley and building up to busier roads as your confidence grows. You practise defensive driving techniques on Highway 101, the Macdonald Bridge, and through downtown Dartmouth, working on parallel parking in real spots, roundabouts, and safe lane changes. By the end, you're comfortable in the conditions you actually drive in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a licence to book a private lesson?

Yes, private lessons require a current Class 7, Class 5, or international licence. If you don’t have a Class 7 yet, you can take the written test at Access Nova Scotia to get one, or if you’ve never driven before and want a complete learning path, our New Driver Education Course is built for that.

Lessons are typically booked in 2-hour blocks, which we’ve found gives enough time to warm up, focus on what you want to work on, and review without rushing. Shorter or longer sessions can be arranged when needed.

Yes, through our Road Test Prep Package, where for $100 you get one hour of prep and use of our vehicle on test day. We meet you at Access Nova Scotia, and you take the test in the same vehicle you’ve been practising in.

Yes, settling driving anxiety is one of the most common reasons drivers book private lessons with us. We work at your pace, never rush you, and focus on building real confidence in low-stress situations before moving on to busier roads.

We come to you within our service area across Dartmouth and the Annapolis Valley, so whether you’d like us to pick you up at home, near your workplace, or close to the Access Nova Scotia office, just let us know when you book.
