What is the application process for the New Driver Education Course?

Complete the information application. You will receive a response within 24 hours confirming we provide service within your community area. Complete the detailed application and submit payment via the invoice link. Within 24 hours of payment, you will receive an email from [email protected] with your private link to set up an account. Trubicars is our e-learning partner. Create your account and complete the New Driver Education Course at your pace.
You have 365 days from the date of purchase to complete the course. You should aim to complete your online course and in-car lessons within 9 months. Once the online course and in-car training are completed, you will receive your certificate of completion. Use your certificate to apply for your Class 5 driver’s licence and receive a discount on vehicle insurance. Congratulations.

Our New Driver Education Course in-car lessons begin after completion of your online learning portion. It is possible to start prior to completing your online portion at the discretion of the driving instructor. It is suggested that in-car lessons commence upon the completion of the New Driver Education Course but is not mandatory. Your certificate is only issued after completion of both the online theory and in-car lessons.

Your in-car lessons are planned over the 9 months and finished with a 2-hour lesson just prior to your road test. Lessons are two hours in length to allow for instructional time and time to practice the new skill. It is an expectation that students are getting practice through family or friends between lessons. This builds familiarity and confidence in the student. There could be months between laying the groundwork skills and finalizing your lessons. This is when you should be practicing through family or friends.

For most students, we will pick up and drop off at your home, school, or workplace. If you are outside our pickup and drop-off area, we will arrange to meet at a public place in a more densely populated area.

Whether the mandatory 10 hours are enough depends on the learning skills of each driver as an individual. If you feel that you would benefit from increased time behind the wheel with an instructor, we offer additional individual driving lessons. Your instructor will assess your skill level prior to your road test and will provide feedback on whether you are ready. It’s our recommendation that you practice at home in between lessons as well. The more time you have behind the wheel, the more confident you become.

Yes. We offer private lessons. Please speak to your driving instructor as these lessons are over and above the New Driver Education Course package. 10 hours is the minimum industry standard for the New Driver Education Course.

Sometimes it happens. Students fail their road test. While it is distressing for the student, it is not the end of the road. You purchase another road test receipt. Discuss the use of a car with your driving instructor.

Novice drivers must use their instructor’s vehicle for their driving instruction. It’s safer to use your instructor’s vehicle as it is equipped with a dual-brake system for training.

Road Test

Where do I get my road test receipt?

You purchase a Road Test Receipt but do not book your date. Your instructor will book your road test date and time to confirm availability of a Class 5 vehicle. Pay for a road test (driving test).

Yes. Use of the car is included in the New Driver Education Course.
If you have not purchased the New Driver Education Course and just want use of our car for your road test, you must complete a one-hour private assessment prior to the use of our car. We retain the right to deny the use of our car if we feel you are not ready. (This is in addition to the one-hour warm-up.) The use of our car includes a one-hour warm-up just prior to your test.

Not all students feel confident to attempt their road test at the end of their 10 in-car hours. Anxiety, bad road experience, lack of extra driving time, and other personal reasons can cause fear and doubt in a new driver. This is normal. You have the right to cancel and rebook your road test to a later date. You can always book private lessons for more in-car experience.
